The Orico NVMe M.2 PCIe SSD Enclosure enables easy read/write access to a wide variety of PCIe M.2 (NVMe only) SSD's over a super high speed USB 3.1 or Thunderbolt 3 connection, all in a cool but tough see-through transparent case!

Sorry, this isn't for Mac SSD's, but...

If you need to access an SSD pulled from a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro or any other kind of Mac, then this isn't the enclosure you want. Look here for the correct one to suit.

Versatile and Backward Compatible

Based on the latest JMS583 PCIe Gen3 x2 bridge controller, this enclosure allows any M.2 2280/2260/2242/2230 PCIe NVMe SSD to be accessed via an external USB 3.0/2.0 or USB 3.1 / Thunderbolt 3 port. Note, the included USB 3.1 Type-A cable is backwards compatible with USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, but data transfer speeds will be limited to USB 2.0 speeds if you are not connecting to a USB 3.1 port.

Will this work in a Thunderbolt 3 port?

Yes it will! Included in the box are two cables. One with a USB-A connector for standard USB Type-A ports, and another with a USB-C host connector for USB Type-C or Thunderbolt 3.0 ports. No need for an additional adapter!

Be aware though, that this is a USB device, so don't expect full thunderbolt speeds from it. Even so, it's still mighty quick, and will is capable of data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps speed if the host system supports it.

How about cooling - will my SSD get hot in this enclosure?

PCIe NVMe SSD's are known to get rather warm, especially when under heavy loads. This is normal and Orico have gone to great lengths to ensure the case dissipates heat as quickly as possible. For an alternative product that utilises additional thermal pads in the design to assist with heat dissipation, see the JEYI-i9 enclosure.

No additional power cables needed

This enclosure is USB powered (just attach one of the included cables to a free USB Type-A, Type-C or Thunderbolt 3 port on your computer) so there’s no additional external power required.

What sort of speeds should I expect?

You probably noticed that this enclosure supports PCIe 3.0 x2 whereas most modern PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD's support PCIe 3.0 x4. This means the maximum bandwidth is limited to 2 PCIe lanes, but even so, the sequential transfer rates are impressive and exceed 1000 MB/s (QD32), almost double that achievable in previous generation M.2 SATA based SSD enclosures.

Compatible with M.2 NVMe SSD's

This enclosure only supports M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD's with an 'M' Key. Be aware that some older PCIe M.2 SSD's like the Samsung XP941 or SM951 have an M key but utlilise the AHCI (rather than NVMe) protocol, and are not supported.
