Global chip shortage is increasing RAM and SSD prices
Prices on all RAM (DDR4 and DDR5) and SSD are increasing due to a global chip shortage.
It started early 2025 with announcements from Samsung and Micron they would cut DDR4 production. It was speculated that DDR4 prices were too low for the factories to make a profit so they have switched to more profitable product lines.
By July 2025 DDR4 prices had increased 50%.
Prices have continued to increase week after week. Prices for DDR4 and DDR5 have doubled since July.
There does not seem to be any end to the shortage, factory prices are still increasing.
Please do not wait for prices to drop. This shortage could last another 12 months, and it is guaranteed prices will be higher in the next month when new stock arrives.
